On September 9, 2023, Oweesta Corporation’s Stephanie Cote attended the 34th Annual Friendship Powwow at the Denver Art Museum in the Sie Welcome Center Strum Grand Pavilion. The event was a part of the free admission days at the Denver Art Museum and open to the public.
“I think it is really important for the urban Native population to have safe and accepting spaces in the spirit of creating allyship and to celebrate our culture while sharing it with friends of our community,” says Stephanie Cote, Senior Program Officer of Oweesta. “I was able to share this event with my friend from South America, and though I wasn’t able to get her dancing in an intertribal, she was able to witness and experience a part of my identity. In addition, this specific powwow acknowledges our culture as a rich form of art and is held in a space that honors various forms of exquisite art from across the world.”
